Service Description
This is a 16-hour course that is given over two days. Students must attend both days to receive credit. This program was developed to teach the emergency vehicle operator (EVO) proper driving techniques to include the mental and physical aspects of the driving task. The program stresses the long-term impact of a crash involving an emergency vehicle on the operator, the emergency service organization, and the community they serve. Program includes: 1. Identifying the problems in emergency vehicle operations 2. Motivating the emergency vehicle operator to perform professionally 3. Legal aspects of Emergency Vehicle Operations 4. Vehicle components and technology 5. Physical forces acting upon the vehicle 6. Performing vehicle inspection and maintenance 7. Legal and regulatory requirements of SOGs 8. Testing 9. Competency Course Upon completion, the participant will be able to: Gain a new appreciation of the responsibilities of an EVO Effectively describe the civil, criminal, and punitive aspects of emergency vehicle operation Demonstrate knowledge of their state’s emergency vehicle statutes Describe the physical laws and operational characteristics of a moving emergency vehicle Describe the personal, ethical, and professional responsibilities of an EVO Demonstrate proficiency with the components, features, and dynamics of the vehicle that they are expected to operate
